Department of Pathology
The Department of Veterinary Pathology, operating within the Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine, is dedicated to investigating the morphological basis of
animal diseases, providing diagnostic services, and delivering high-quality
education. Our department conducts a robust curriculum at both undergraduate
and postgraduate levels (Master’s and PhD programs). Students are instructed in
the fundamental principles of pathology, histopathological and gross
identification of diseases, tissue reactions, and tumor biology through both
theoretical and practical approaches.
Our academic staff consists of three Professors, one Associate
Professor, and one Assistant Professor, all of whom are experts in their
fields. This academic team actively engages in both educational and research
activities, aiming to foster scientific thinking among students. Through
ongoing research projects, the department contributes to the advancement of
veterinary pathology and produces scientific publications using up-to-date
methodologies.
The department offers a range of compulsory courses, including General
Pathology, Special Pathology I, Special Pathology II, Necropsy and
Demonstration, and Fish Diseases, as well as elective courses such as
Cytopathology and Clinical Pathology.
Beyond education, the department also performs necropsies on a wide
variety of animals, including livestock, pets, exotic, wild, and aquatic
species, and provides biopsy and cytopathology diagnostic services. By
diagnosing diseases based on case materials submitted to our faculty, we enrich
the educational environment and support the clinical sciences.
Our department is equipped with one five-headed and one dual-headed
teaching microscope with imaging systems, 15 student microscopes, a tissue
processor, a paraffin embedding station, a microtome with a water bath, and
essential laboratory instruments and supplies.
Since 2016, our department has been offering a Master’s degree with
thesis, and since 2019, a doctoral program, both of which remain actively
ongoing. Students enrolled in these postgraduate programs take an active role
in research projects and gain scientific competence. With its interdisciplinary
collaborations and practical as well as academic strengths, the Department of
Veterinary Pathology continues to serve as a strong educational and diagnostic
unit.
